4 FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY GROUP

The Friends of the Library is an association whose members work to increase community awareness and use of library resources. The Friends hold fund raising events to support programs and to purchase items that are not covered in the regular library budget. They also participate each year in the Township's Memorial Day Parade by decorating a small float around a theme chosen to focus attention on the library.

The recent renovation of the library included a History Room where the library's collection of maps, documents and photographs are stored. The Friends of the Library have assumed the task of organizing, categorizing, and preserving the collection. Donations of old photographs or items related to the history of the Township of  Washington would be much appreciated. If you have memories of earlier times in the Township, members of our group would love to talk with you about your recollections.
The Cheryl Hopper Todd History Room is now open by appointment. Funding has been made possible,
in part, through grant funds administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, through a General Operating Support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State. We would like to thank the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, for making it possible!

The Friends of the Library participated in the publication of The Story of the Township of Washington, a history of our town. The book is available in soft cover for $5.00 and in hardcover for $20.00. Also on sale is a children's historical coloring book for $1.25 and a lovely canvas tote bag with the town's logo for $10.00. One of the major fund-raising events every year is the 50/50 Raffle, conducted during the month of April, with the drawing of the winning ticket televised live on our local TV station, WCTV, early in May.

Each year, The Friends send out an invitation to all Township residents to participate in our efforts to support our library by sending in a tax-free donation. Any resident is welcome to join the group which
meets on the first Tuesday evening of each month at 7pm in the library.

The Friends meet on the first Tuesday of every month to discuss how best to help the Library.

THANK YOU JEAN!!!
Our beloved Jean Milaschewski has recently left us to be closer to her family. We would like to thank her for nine years of dedication and the energy and great ideas that have improved our Library. She has served as President of the Friends of the Township of Washington Public Library, Bookkeeper, English as a Second Language Coordinator and ESL instructor. She has been a driving force behind the History room, history database, the publishing of The Story of Washington Township, and a true friend to Library staff.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg!
We want to thank her for her cheerfulness, diplomacy and creativity - tackling and solving problems is another of her great strengths!  We will miss her very much and we thank her wholeheartedly for her many wonderful contributions to the Library! Keep in touch, Jean!
